Happy New Year!

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year of joyful moments and a chance renew our commitment to practice!

We will resume our regular sittings starting Sunday January 9 at 9AM.

Over the next few months, we will practice with the Heart Sutra - the Prajnaparamita - a central guide to the practice of liberation.  It is both very simple text that opens us to the interconnectedness of all things and a deeply demanding call to let go of our prejudices and stories of disappointment in ourselves and others.  Within the Zen tradition, the Heart Sutra is chanted daily, often twice a day, and the merit of the practice offered for the well being all creatures.

After our meditations, we will open each dharma talk with a recitation using different translations.  The dharma talks will initially be from the Upaya Rohatsu sesshin in December which was about the Heart Sutra.  We invite you to use some of the books below which explain and can help develop our practice with the Heart Sutra.

The Heart of Understanding by Thich Nhat Hanh
The Heart Sutra by Red Pine
Essence of the Heart Sutra by the Dalai Lama
An Arrow to the Heart by Ken McLeod

Also some beautiful chants:

Heart of Perfect Wisdom by Robert Gass
The Heart Sutra by Thich Nhat Hanh in Drops of Emptiness
The Heart of Perfect Understanding  in Chanting Breath by Breath
As you can see the trails in the woods are perfect for walking.  Hopefully we will spend one session wandering the path as practice!

We look forward to practicing with you,
Lynette & Frank
